Great topic! There you go making me laugh again Gary. Anyways, when my grandmother died, I didn't feel it was the place of any elder to say anything or even be at the funeral for that matter. My Grandmother came to this country over 50 years ago and lived to be 93 years old. As a patriarch of the family she had 6 children and grand children and great grand children to numerous to count. She told me on different occasions that she thought the religion was bullshit. Granny lived with us since we were kids in our witness family and I feel she was only trying to please certain people so that she would be looked after. In preparing a eulogy for her, my brother was not taken seriously and told his speech should be changed or else don't give it. None of these elders were family and didn't even know her and did not accurately represent her for her 93 years of life or anyone of our relatives . Just as you said , this was there sorry attempt at preaching again. This made me very angry and I've told my family so. What makes me even angrier is the fact that for the last 20 years my life has been nothing but outright direct opposition to witnesses and what they stand for. If I accomplished nothing else it would be this. I told my father that when I die that I wish for a common burial. He absolutely refused and said that I will be buried a witness no matter what! I know of a freind of mine they did this too as well. I hate them for this! They shun you when your alive and then claim you as one of their own when your dead. You just can't win!

Will Lack of Leadership Sink the JW Ship?
by Seeker4 ini see serious problems with the leadership of the witnesses on two important levels: locally, in smaller bodies of elders with marginally qualified men carrying heavier workloads, and internationally in a lackluster and unimaginative governing body.
there are no nathan knorrs, or fred or ray franz's in this pathetic group!
first, the local elders: .

There will always be the peons who can fill the void who have been waiting for their opportunity to be the overlord and the prestige that goes with it. In any corporation, people are always dispensible. So long as r&f always beleive that there is holy spirit directing these guys, then there games will continue. This well oiled machine has been around for so long it could practically run itself . It's the ideology and fear tactics itself, that give the org the teeth that it has.

My wife loves me more than I love her
by jayhawk1 inlove has always been a difficult concept for me.
i've dated several women that i had no emotional connection with.
i began to think falling in love would never happen.

That's a good start Lowden. I might also say that perhaps you feel in terms of the relationship that you have done more than your fair share to provide, keep conversations open and interesting etc.. These things can wear a person down when the partner doesn't realize or try to contribute their fair share. If this inequality were to continue you could just as easily see yourself as being trapped and start to imagine a different scenario actually falling out of love. By the way Lowden I think we are almost the exact same age. I don't know if that's your scene though Jayhawk. It's just a suggestion.

Isn't every idea that comes out of our heads a god we have created. That may all be an illusion for our comfort or a means to justify evil. I'm talking about the force that made us. Personally, My logic tells me that an entity is responsible for all things that are in existence. What I question based on what I see, is that that entity actually gives a dam. Why should we trust, if he holds all the cards. We have no reason to. We want definitve and tangible answers to make us feel good. I call that wishful thinking.

If that's correct Deputy Dog then we are just part of a big game for his cosmic amusement with no real control over our own affairs. At any rate I refuse to be a part of this stupid game. He gives us a book thats supposed to help us and more evil and confusion and interpretations come out of it. I'm not playing anymore!

Awakes: DidYouUseThemForHomework?
by LovesDubs inbefore the introduction of the largest library on the planet...the internet...did you young jws use the awake magazines as a source for doing your homework and trust the contents to be accurate for reports?
i remember reading letters from readers just drooling with thanks for giving their kids the edge over those poor worldly kids who had to trapse to the library to do their research.

Where exactly is Satan?
by IronClaw insince leaving the jw's most of us have also left most of their doctrine.
so that being the case, most of us have left the wt understanding of 1914. now you know that the wt claims that satan was hurled out of heaven in that year down to the vicinity of the earth.
so the question is: if 1914 is just another year to us, then what are your thoughts as to the whereabouts of satan and his followers?.

I agree with you Aqua girl. I was just making a conjecture based on world events, and what the bible might imply.

Looking at the way things are in the middle east right now, I'd say he's shacked up in Iraq somewhere.

If you designed a faulty artificial heart, or made a faulty program for a computer, who would you blame? Yourself of course! But evil and dysfunction are somehow our fault, right. Even though we had no intelligent hand in our own design. If you created a loving, kind being and placed it in an evil, corrupt and selfish world, like a dog without a bone, and then that loving being started to become resentful because it was unable to see the blessings and joy and majesty of your creation, would you blame the being you made, or yourself? I could never understand people who continuously give credit and praise to an entity they can't see, doesn't talk to anyone, does absolutely nothing for anyone, lets evil thrive, and gives no protection or advantage to those that try to be decent. None of my prayers have ever been answered, and any changes that ever happened in my life were from a painful, willing and deliberate effort, on my part, to do so. Praise God? Praise yourself! In Nazi Germany during the holocaust, a boy watched his father calling on the great Jehovah, praying feverently to stop the injustices to the Jews, and save his family from evil. After his prayer was finished he received a nice clean bullet, right between the eyes, by his Nazi captor. Even if this evil was supposed to be part of some great plan for the vindication of God's name, it's still sadistic and egocentric, as we are being used as pawns to prove some point. I get far less angry in life when I leave god out of the equation. The way I see it, god and satan are just added complications that perpetuate problems that should be dealt with in the real world. If I chose to be good, and reject God and satan at the same time, then they both lose, and that gives me satisfaction! Besides, If I try my best to be good in this sick world, of my own free accord, and god wants to destroy me, then he can kiss my ass from here, to the other side of eternity.
